So I've had to step back and look at the way things are and look at myself before I fell into the trap and noticed that, a lot of yall just are in hip-hop to profit from it financially. Not saying nothing is wrong with making money off of what you love doing, what I'm saying is its wrong to make money off of hip-hop if that's ALL you want to do. Theres a thin line we all walk and yeah, I want to make money for the work I put in. BUT, at the same time even if I don't make no kind of bread from it, I'm still at the end of the day going to continue to be apart of Hip-Hop because I love it.
See some of you just jump in not knowing your history on this, some of you come from a different element of hip-hop and want to be Emcee's, cause its rare to see a Emcee switch up and go to being a DJ Bboy or Graff Writer. Some of you are not good at any of the elements but support Hip-Hop because you truly love it and you know what THATS DOPE! Your not taking room up, and you can sit back away from the politics of it and enjoy what you see and for that I PERSONALLY THANK YOU! We need more people like you out here for reals.
All im trying to say is, love what you do and do what you love. Promoters throw shows and lose money on em all the time and yet, they still throw shows because they love to do it. Bboys crash all the time and they still practice that same move because they want to prove to themselves they can do it. You will get what you put in but you gotta love this or else your taking up room.
KUDOS.. major kudos.. and THANK YOU because I felt appreciated reading this. we prefer to call ourselves "hip hop enthusiasts" =)
ReplyDeletealso, there is a lot of truth in your words, my friend. its a constant struggle (or battle, if you will) in the Hip Hop world. awareness of the culture and history is key, in my opinion.
this is a subject that we can write books on lol... but i understand. and those that are true to the cutlure understand.
even luda said "I don't do it for the cars or the fancy drops.. I DO IT FOR HIP HOP"
... write books? We should all put a chapter in and publish it as a cooperative effort and give it out to youth so that the future can flourish within hip-hop as well before it gets watered and flushed. The ideas are endless and we all loose money whether we invest in our business or enjoy the moment.
ReplyDeleteI have never and will never do hip-hop for money! Love, love, love! Might be why I am broke but we can all appreciate an artist's lifestyle. What is so awesome is to see people professionally coming together to create and live and play in one place. So we can be sustainable. This is my dream.
The idea is, as a community to come together and to work with each other as a unit -- stable and sustainable. Without constant interaction, grasp and growth we are stagnant. Let's move foward which is inevitably up and be the true leaders that we know we are. To the Enthusiast: Keep supporting because without you, the world will be uneducated or postively influenced. To the dancer -- keep emulating and creating human beauty; to the DJ, please don't let that record stop, music is for the soul. For the Writer, don't stop; poetry, stories are what humans look to in time of need...giving and receiving -- the writer is the teacher! The Artist -- you know that your expression is truth -- continue in the process of life and sharing with generations forth what humans in our time are made of and wanted to share with the earth!
For all those who do not relate, that is okay. We are all here together as humans to unite so let's do that with one another every so often!
And with that, I say YEA! Cuz I like to celebrate and goodnite!
